Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho fined for speeding near Man United

Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has been fined after being convicted of speeding near Manchester United’s training ground just days before his transfer to Stamford Bridge, according to court documents and statements from his legal team.

The 21-year-old Argentina international was caught by a speed camera while driving his black Audi RS 3 on Carrington Lane, close to the entrance of United’s Carrington training facility and academy complex. The incident occurred at 5:51 p.m. on August 26, with court papers confirming the location and time of the offence.

Garnacho, who came through Manchester United’s academy, had recently left the club after reportedly falling out of favour under then-manager Ruben Amorim. Since joining Chelsea, he has made 36 appearances and scored seven goals.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Magistrate Jane Haynes presided over the case and imposed a £660 fine on Garnacho. In addition to the fine, he was ordered to pay £120 in costs and a £264 victim surcharge. The court heard that Garnacho was also charged with failing to respond to a Greater Manchester Police letter regarding the speeding offence, which required him to identify the driver of his car in October of the previous year.

Police stated that Garnacho was contacted twice about the incident but did not respond to confirm he had been driving. The police computer system recorded that someone logged in to view the evidence after the letters had been sent, but no formal response was received from Garnacho at the time.

Garnacho’s Response

Garnacho’s lawyers at JMW Solicitors submitted a statement on his behalf, acknowledging his responsibility for the speeding offence. “Mr Garnacho accepts that he committed the offence of exceeding the speed limit and has pleaded guilty to the offence,” the statement read. The lawyers added, “Mr Garnacho explains this was an oversight on his part and apologises for the offence. Our client is embarrassed that he is currently in this position and apologises to the Court for the excess speed offence.”

The black Audi RS 3 involved in the incident has a starting price of more than £61,000, according to court documents.

Garnacho’s conviction and fine come after his departure from Manchester United, where he developed through the club’s academy system before his move to Chelsea.
